On May 21st, the parking lot directly east of the State Capitol and the east entrance to the building will be closed to facilitate restoration work on the underground tunnel. During this time, crews will dig up the area around the tunnel to install new waterproofing as well as a leak detection system.

In early October, the east entrance to the State Capitol will reopen and access to the parking lot will be reinstated. At that time, a one-lane diversion will be created to allow crews to restore the portion of the tunnel that is located underneath Lincoln Boulevard. Construction on the tunnel is expected to be completed in January 2019. Click here to view an informational graphic outlining the phases of construction on the tunnel.

The tunnel will not be open to the public until mid-2020 when the new visitor entrance to the State Capitol is completed. We appreciate everyone’s patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
